Job Description

Waste Connections of Canada the leader in non-hazardous solid waste management in North America is looking for a Residential Garbage Truck Driver (manual side load) to join our team in Red Deer and Sylvan Lake. We are looking for an SAFETY inclined, energetic, autonomous and proactive team player capable of making a difference in his/her team and community.

Position Summary

Drive through dense residential areas for yard waste. The driver proceeds to subsequent customers until the truck has a full load, and then dumps the load at a transfer station before continuing customer pickups.

$23 per hour - Full time, with benefits

Job Duties: (what will this person be doing on a daily/regular basis)

  • Performs proper, daily pre /post trip inspections on company assigned vehicles.

  • Completes daily collection of waste in a safe and productive manner

  • Demonstrates low risk tolerance and participates in a positive manner to district Safety

  • Using a Manual Side load truck collect unlimited Yard waste units at a capacity of 55 lbs per unit for approx. 2000 homes per day Monday to Friday.

  • Follow along assigned route and report immediately any missed pickups or safety issues in field.

Job Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Class 3 or 1 Canadian Driver License with a minimum of 2 years driving experience

  • Must be able to read, speak and write English.

  • Capable of problem solving, critical thinking, job task planning, map/address reading, organizing and significant use of memory.

  • Must have a clean abstract with no recent major safety violations related to our industry

  • .Must always have a full understanding of surroundings in all situations.

  • .Should have a good knowledge of Red Deer and surrounding areas.

Extremely Physically demanding role:

  • Seated and standing in a truck. Exposed to heat/cold, rain, snow.

  • Climbs in and out of truck at each customer site and roll bins weighing about 55 pounds (depends on contents e.g., cans vs paper) a few feet to truck and back over 2000 times a day.
